Five Things I'm Not Too Busy For

Our church is heading into a new season of life, beginning a new site about fifteen miles south of our first one in a few weeks. It's kind of "all hands on deck" from now until the end of the year, in addition to all the extra stuff that comes along with the fall schedule starting up. I've been looking at my projects and deciding what HAS to be done, and looking at what I do throughout the week to see if there's anything I can equip others to do. When there's a lot to be done, it's important to prioritize--because we can't do it all--and put what's not a priority on hold. But here are five things that I know I'm not--or shouldn't--be too busy for:

  1. Prayer. It's tempting to put time with God off, or just devote a smaller amount of time. If I get tempted to do this, I think I'll just take a quick walk through the Bible and see how things go for leaders who neglect God.
  2. My family. Not only am I busy, but my wife volunteers in a couple of different areas in our church. Our schedule might get jumbled, but we'll make time with our girls and with each other work.
  3. Students who need to be loved. I'm thankful that we've got a great team of leaders who care for our students, because there's no way I could care for all of our students. But sometimes things come up in a student's life, and they just want to come in and talk about it. Not too busy for that.
  4. Tutoring at a local high school. I've made it a practice to spend at least one or two hours a week volunteering at a local school. Not only is it a whole lot of fun, it's a good reminder that while it's important to care for students inside our church, we as a church exist for those still outside it. Tuesday afternoons at Ogden High keep me grounded in what's important.
  5. Our Small Group. My wife and I have a small group with three other couples.  All of us have crazy schedules, and we meet about 2-3 a month at best.  But when we do meet, it's a huge encouragement to us, and a great place for me to just be able to be me.

What are you NOT to busy for?
