During my visit, I witnessed one of the most tender exchanges between this married couple. Carrie was about to have her morning nap after breakfast, so I walked with Jim as he wheeled her down to her room. He gently lifted her from the wheelchair onto her bed and made her comfortable. We then all prayed together, and he told her, "Carrie, should we sing Pastor Benjer one of our songs? They then joined hands and sang "This World Is Not My Home" together. Though Carrie's mind is not what it once was, she knew every word. As I left, I told Jim that his wife was blessed to be married to him. He simply replied, "She's my wife...'til death do us part. I left thanking God that such people like Jim and Carrie exist in this world. It was a powerful experience.
If you are unfamiliar with the hymn, "This World Is Not My Home" here are the words:
This world is not my home I'm just passing through
my treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue
the angels beckon me from Heaven's open door
and I can't feel at home in this world anymore
O Lord you know I have no friend like you
if Heaven's not my home then Lord what will I do?
the angels beckon me from Heaven's open door
and I can't feel at home in this world anymore
They're all expecting me and that's one thing I know
my savior pardoned me and now I onward go
I know He'll take me through though I am weak and poor
and I can't feel at home in this world anymore
O Lord you know I have no friend like you
if Heaven's not my home then Lord what will I do?
the angels beckon me from Heaven's open door
and I can't feel at home in this world anymore
Just up in Glory Land we'll live eternally
the Saints on every hand are shouting victory
their song of sweetest praise drifts back from Heaven's shore
and I can't feel at home in this world anymore
O Lord you know I have no friend like you
if Heaven's not my home then Lord what will I do?
the angels beckon me from Heaven's open door
and I can't feel at home in this world anymore
