The Little Things Matter

A couple of weeks ago, I got an email from a student I had never met. He was a part of our junior high ministry in previous years and is now in high school. Though he has never come to anything that I would meet him at, he is still in our database because we knew he was still in the area. Here's what he wrote:

Hello benjer just wanted to say thank you very much for wishing me a happy birthday (: and also I may start coming to the Oasis class at 10:20 for the first time this Sunday. But thank You [for] the birthday wish.

[Student's name]

We send birthday cards to each student we have an address for. Our amazing administrator Angie prints them off each month (she designed a birthday postcard to keep the process simple and the postage cheaper), and I write a short note and sign my name. To be honest, it's sometimes a tedious task for me, especially as our mailing list grows. But emails like the one above remind me that the little things we know we should do really make a difference in the lives of students.

What "little things" do you see really making a difference in youth ministry?
