Starbucks. Or any coffee shop, I suppose. But "Starbucks" comes to mind because of the first church I was on staff at. Our high school group met on Sunday nights, and after youth group, we (most of the leaders and students) would head over to the nearest Starbucks for another hour of conversation. Often, the conversations centered around questions students have about faith, God, and life. It came such a venue for these discussions that if a question came up in youth group that was too off topic or required too much time to discuss, I'd say, "That's a great Starbucks question" and we'd address it at Starbucks later. To this day, some of my favorite youth ministry memories are from that Starbucks in Centennial, CO at Yosemite and Arapahoe.
The wilderness. Backpacking is one of my favorite youth ministry activities. I'm talkin' carry everything you need on your back for at least five days--none of this car camping stuff. Something wonderful happens when we leave just about everything behind. I love taking students on backpacking trips, and highly recommend it for just about any group of students.
The homeless shelter. Or any place where I get to serve side-by-side with students. I love seeing how students' eyes and hearts are opened, and the conversations that come out of these experiences are amazing. Usually, I come away from service days with students blown away by what they have taught me in one way or another.
Those are some of my favorites...what are yours?
