Six Theological Questions Youth Workers Need to Wrestle With

Theology's not dusty (see here for more on that). Students have real questions; though we can't (nor are we expected to) have answers for all of them, we should at least be prepared to grapple with those questions alongside them. A well-meaning youth worker who gives one-lined stock answers to deep questions isn't really helpful. Here are some questions you should wrestle with so that you're prepared to help students wrestle with them as well:

1. How much knowledge of Jesus is needed for a person to have a saving faith in him?

2. What does it mean that the Bible was "inspired," and can we really trust what it says?

3. What is the role of the Holy Spirit in the life of a follower of Jesus?

4. Why does suffering exist?

5. What does it mean to be "saved" and how much of a role does an individual play in his or her salvation?

6. What can we know about Jesus' second coming and eternity in heaven, and what does that have to do with a teenager's life in the here and now?

What would you add to the list?
