When the time came for Communion, we were having a conversation in the back of the auditorium, and I pointed him toward Jimi, who was explaining communion and about to pray for us. At the Sunday night service, we have communion stations set up at tables throughout the room. After the pastor leading communion prays, a song is played and people go to the tables, which have candles on them, to take the bread and grape juice (again, please don't tell my Anglican friends).
When Peter realized it was time for communion, he said very loudly, "Yeah, I remember communion! We did it at the retreat!" I asked Peter if he knew what communion meant, and he said (very excitedly), "Yeah! It's about Jesus!" Just after he answered me, he said, "Hold, on, stay here" and RAN to a communion table in the far corner of the room. He got us each a small cup of juice and a piece of bread, and came back. He handed me the bread and juice he got for me, and we enjoyed communion together.
I was struck with this thought for the rest of the service: when was the last time I was so excited to worship God through communion--or through anything else for that matter--that I yelled about how excited I was and RAN to get there? Admittedly, it's very difficult for my whole self to be present in corporate worship or in my own private prayer time, and I don't remember the last time I was excited to worship with other believers. So, I think it's time I take a lesson from Peter. Perhaps it's time for you, too?
"And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved." -Acts 2:46-47
